Acting locally we can have an impact on global issues.
Small things can, if enough of us do them, have an effect worldwide. The key is to have enough of us doing the small things - and at the same time, looking towards global solutions. It is important to keep in mind that small changes we make here, can have profound changes at the other end of the world - and to take this into account. To find ways of balancing the system to create well-being for all.
A very small example for me of this is centered around food miles. I know I can have an effect in reducing my carbon footprint - and the use of oil related to this by growing or sourcing more of my own food locally. At the same time, I know that the farmers on the other side of the world are dependant on the income they generate - small as it may be - by producing this food. My question to myself then becomes, "OK, I'm going to choose to reduce my food miles - which is a local action. But what can I do to further empower or support those farmers on the opposite side of the world who's ecconnomic well being now changes through these choices?"
The answer I come up with might be to look at local ecconomic systems, supporting ways of finding how to keep the ecconnomy local, permaculture practises - something which adds value to the local ecconomy, empowers those individuals - and to support these practises - both locally, but also globally within small commmunities.
