The Vision:A Fruit producing tree, plant or bush in every home and public space within the next four years.. (From 2011)What's happening so far: The Strawberry project - Local schools, growing strawberries, decorating their pots - and creating art work and diaries around this.
How it works: Each class will get 3 pots of strawberries. Children to do the artwork based on this at the same time as the diaries on July 4th. Hayes has offered to host judge the Strawberries...
The Fire Station project - Digging out some self-seeded trees & replacing these with some fruit trees and bushes. Instead of mowing this area, let's weed it - and support creating some natural grasslands for it!
Get Grafting - Grafting event at Ladyholme center in conjunction with South Lakeland Orchard Group - SLOG on the 13th March.
Alexandra Court - OK, it wasn't us who planted it, or came up with the idea for this space, but we were delighted to be invited along, to meet the local residents and family members, share some donated daffodil bulbs and talk about
Fruity Windermere - and simply share our enthusiasm with a wonderful group of people in the community! Basically, there was Norway Spruce that had to come out - and the residents planted an Apple tree to replace this.
What Fruity Windermere is still wondering: - Whether local businesses would be interested in sponsoring trees - and if so - how can we make this work?
- Wether Lakes School would like to get involved, taking on fruit planting in public spaces as a school project...
Towards a Strategy for Planting Schemes... Intitial thoughts are to concentrate on the following over the next two years:
Bowness 1. Beresford Road Gardens

Troutbeck Bridge Inspiring Lakes School to get involved!
Windermere 1. Entrance to the library from Ellerthwaite Square
2. School Knott Drive and grass area opposite Limethwaite Road
What's Fruitfully available? Rhubarb!!! Looking into just how available... Keep checking with us - or let us know if you have some you'd like to share...
What else:
Currents and Gooseberries - Aim to take cuttings each year from the bushes already growing - to share the abundance around...
